An open letter

Dear Mark,

You built a place for people to share things. I share one thing. My book.

I have posted about it on Threads 311 times. Your servers have kept every one. Your algorithm has read them all. You might be the only company that has seen my book more often than my dad has.

There is only one copy of Dad, Look – I Wrote A Book! It costs $1,000,000. I know that sounds like a lot. But you once paid a billion dollars for a photo app. That's a thousand of my books. I'm only asking you to buy one.

You like building things. So do I. I have built 27 websites to sell one book. We are basically the same person, except one of us has the money.

I'm not asking for a blue check. I'm not asking you to boost my posts. I'm asking you to buy my book.

Your loyal user,
Abdel Seoud

P.S. Beers and chocolates are included. I don't know if you drink beer. The chocolates are good.

Things your company bought vs. my book

Prices as widely reported at the time, rounded. Measured in copies of my book.

  1. Instagram 2012 $1,000,000,000

A photo app. You kept it. 1,000 books

  2. Oculus 2014 $2,000,000,000

A headset. It led to the metaverse. 2,000 books

  3. WhatsApp 2014 $19,000,000,000

A chat app. Everyone's mum uses it. 19,000 books

  4. Giphy 2020 $400,000,000

Moving pictures. You had to sell it again. 400 books

  5. Dad, Look – I Wrote A Book! Today $1,000,000

A book. You would never have to sell it. 1 book. Not bought.

Bars use a log scale, or the book would be invisible. It's small. It's still worth it.

I built you a metaverse

It has one item. Move your mouse or tilt your phone to look around.

Your avatar has legs here. We splurged.
